- Is Uncle a real person?
- No. Uncle is software that works for you. He will always tell you so if you ask.
- Do I need to download anything?
- No. You text a phone number. That is all.
- What does it cost?
- Texting Uncle is free. Your phone plan's normal message and data rates may apply.
- What can Uncle do?
- He checks texts and emails you forward to see if they look real or fake, explains letters, bills and screens you send as photos, helps you write letters and messages, answers questions in plain words, and remembers what you ask him to remember.
- Can Uncle tell me a message is safe?
- No one can promise that from a text alone, so he never will. He tells you when a message looks like a scam and why, or that he cannot confirm it is real. When in doubt, contact the company using a number you already trust, like the one on the back of your card.
- Does Uncle buy, book, or pay for things?
- No. He does not spend money or send anything in your name. He drafts, explains and checks, and you stay in charge.
- What happens to what I tell him?
- It is used only to help you. It is never sold and never used to train anyone's models. Text FORGET ME to erase it. If you do not text Uncle for 12 months, it is deleted. Details are in our Privacy Policy.
- What happens to photos I send?
- Uncle reads each photo to answer you. Textuncle does not keep the photo.
- Are my texts encrypted?
- Regular text messages travel through your phone carrier and are not end to end encrypted. Do not text Uncle passwords, full card numbers, Social Security numbers, or one time codes.
- Will Uncle ever text me first?
- No. He only replies to you. If a text claiming to be Uncle arrives when you did not text him, it is not us.
- Can he help in an emergency?
- No. If you are in danger, call 911. If you are thinking about hurting yourself, call or text 988.
- Who can use Uncle?
- Anyone 18 or older with a US phone number.
- What is the Family plan?
- A paid plan for a son, daughter or other family member, at $9 a month or $90 a year. Your parent texts Uncle as usual, and if he sees a message sent to them that looks like a scam, you get a short heads up on your phone. You never see what their messages say. Uncle stays free for your parent either way.
- How do I cancel the Family plan?
- Anytime online at textuncle.com/family/manage. It stops the next renewal, and alerts continue until the end of the period you already paid for.
- How do I stop?
- Text STOP. You will get one confirmation and nothing after that.
- How do I erase what he knows?
- Text FORGET ME. He erases your history and what he remembered, and confirms.
