These terms are an agreement between you and Textuncle ("Textuncle," "we," "us"). By texting Uncle or using our website, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
1. What Uncle is
Uncle is an automated assistant powered by artificial intelligence. Uncle is not a person. Uncle answers questions, explains messages, letters, bills and photos you send, points out signs that a message may be a scam, drafts writing for you, and keeps notes you ask him to keep. Nothing Uncle says is professional medical, legal, financial, or tax advice.
2. Scam checks are a second opinion
Uncle's scam checks look for common warning signs. They are not a guarantee. A message Uncle does not flag may still be a scam, and a message he flags may turn out to be real. Never act on a message just because Uncle did not flag it. Before you pay, share information, or call a number, contact the company or person directly using a number or address you already trust. You are responsible for the decisions you make.
3. Who can use it
You must be 18 or older, live in the United States, and be the owner or authorized user of the phone number you text from.
4. Your number is your account
Anyone who texts from your phone can use Uncle as you and see what Uncle remembers about you. Keep your phone locked. Tell us right away at hello@textuncle.com if your phone or number is lost, stolen, or transferred.
5. Actions in your name
Uncle does not buy, book, pay, cancel, or send anything in your name. If we add any feature that acts for you, Uncle will ask for your clear confirmation every time before it acts, and nothing will happen without it.
6. Accuracy
Uncle can make mistakes, including reading a photo wrong. Check important details such as dates, names, amounts, and addresses yourself. We do not guarantee that any answer is complete or correct.
7. Fees and the Family plan
Texting Uncle is free. Your mobile carrier's message and data rates may apply.
The Family plan is an optional paid subscription bought on our website by a family member, at $9 a month or $90 a year (plus any tax). Payment is handled by our payment processor; Textuncle never sees or stores card numbers. The plan renews automatically at the same price each month or year until you cancel. You can cancel anytime online at textuncle.com/family/manage. Canceling stops the next renewal, and the plan stays active until the end of the period already paid. Payments are not refundable for partial periods, except where the law requires. We will tell you by email before any price change, and before each yearly renewal.
A Family plan covers one family member's phone, connected only when that person texts JOIN and the plan's code to Uncle from their own phone. The person who pays receives short alert texts when Uncle sees a message sent to that phone that looks like a scam. Alerts never include what the messages say. Either person can stop at any time: the family member by texting LEAVE FAMILY, the payer by texting STOP.
8. Acceptable use
You agree to follow our Acceptable Use Policy. We may refuse any request and may limit, suspend, or end your access if you break it.
9. Your content
You keep ownership of what you send. You give us permission to process it only to run and improve the service as described in our Privacy Policy. We do not sell your content or use it to train AI models.
10. Our service
The Textuncle name, website, and software belong to us. You may not copy, resell, or reverse engineer the service, or use it to build a competing product.
11. No warranty
The service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. We do not promise the service will always be available or free of errors.
12. Limit of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for lost money, data, or opportunities, including losses from scams or from relying on Uncle's answers. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the fees you paid us in the 3 months before the claim or $100.
13. Indemnity
You agree to cover our losses from claims caused by your misuse of the service or your breaking these terms.
14. Disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of Idaho. Before filing any claim, contact us at hello@textuncle.com and give us 30 days to resolve it. Any dispute will be resolved by binding individual arbitration under the rules of the American Arbitration Association, except that either side may bring a claim in small claims court. You and we waive the right to a jury trial and to take part in a class action. You may opt out of arbitration by emailing hello@textuncle.com within 30 days of first using Uncle.
15. Ending use
You can stop at any time by texting STOP. We may suspend or end the service, or your access, at any time.
16. Changes
We may update these terms. If changes are significant, we will post a notice on this page before they take effect. Continuing to use Uncle means you accept the update.
