This policy explains what Textuncle collects, why, and what you can do about it. Short version: we keep only what we need to help you, we never sell it, and we never use your messages to train AI models.
What we collect
- Your phone number, and the date and time of your messages
- What you send Uncle, including text and photos
- What you ask Uncle to remember, such as names, dates, and preferences
- Your choices, such as whether you opted out, and a scrambled form of any PIN you set (we never keep the PIN itself)
- Website data: our hosting provider keeps standard technical logs, such as IP address and browser type, for security. Our website does not use advertising trackers.
We do not ask for, and you should not send by text, passwords, full card numbers, bank details, Social Security numbers, or one time codes.
Photos
Uncle reads each photo you send to answer you. Textuncle does not store the photo. What Uncle says about it becomes part of your conversation history.
How we use it
- To answer you, and to remember context so you do not have to repeat yourself
- To keep the service safe, prevent abuse, and fix problems
- To meet legal obligations
Who we share it with
- Service providers that run parts of Uncle for us: our text message provider, cloud hosting, and AI model providers. They may use your information only to provide services to us, under terms that do not allow them to train on it or use it for their own purposes.
- Legal and safety reasons, when required by law or to protect someone from serious harm.
Text messaging data. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties. Information may be shared with service providers solely to deliver the service, such as our messaging provider.
We never sell or rent your personal information, and we never share it for targeted advertising.
Family plan
If someone buys the Family plan, we keep the buyer's phone number, the phone number of the family member it covers, the plan's 6 digit code, and whether the plan is active. The buyer's name, email and card are collected by our payment processor, Stripe, under its own privacy policy. Textuncle never sees or stores card numbers. We do not text the covered family member until they text Uncle first. Family alerts tell the buyer only that a message to the covered phone looked like a scam, identified by its last 4 digits. They never include what any message says.
How long we keep it
We keep a short conversation history and the notes you asked Uncle to keep while you use the service. If you do not text Uncle for 12 months, we delete it automatically. Text FORGET ME at any time to delete your history and notes right away. If you opted out, we keep a record of that so we never text you again.
Your choices and rights
- Delete: text FORGET ME, or email privacy@textuncle.com
- Access or correct: email privacy@textuncle.com and we will send you what we hold
- Stop messages: text STOP
Depending on your state (including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, and others), you may have additional rights to know, delete, correct, and limit use of your information. We honor these requests for everyone, wherever you live, and we will not treat you differently for using them. We may need to confirm the request comes from your phone number before acting on it.
Security
Your information is stored encrypted by our hosting provider, and access is limited. Every message we receive is checked to confirm it truly came from our text message provider. Regular text messages travel through phone carriers and are not end to end encrypted, which is why we ask you not to text highly sensitive numbers.
Children
Uncle is for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor is using Uncle, contact privacy@textuncle.com and we will delete their information.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we will post a notice on this page before it takes effect.
