Block a caller on most Android phones (Google Phone app)
- Open the Phone app and tap Recents.
- Tap the call you want to block.
- Tap Block or Report spam.
- Leave the box checked to report the call as spam, then tap Block.
Block a caller on a Samsung Galaxy
You can also block a number you type in yourself: in the Phone app, tap the three dots, then Settings, then Block numbers, enter the number, and tap the plus sign.
- Open the Phone app and tap Recents.
- Tap the number, then tap the menu or the small i in a circle.
- Tap Block, then confirm.
Block someone who texted you
- Google Messages: open the conversation, tap the three dots, tap Details, then Block and report spam.
- Samsung Messages: touch and hold the conversation in your list, tap More, tap Block, and tap Block again to confirm.
- Either way, the conversation moves out of your inbox, and new texts from that number stop showing up.
Undo a block
In the Google Phone app, tap the three dots, then Settings, then Blocked numbers, and tap the X next to the number. On a Samsung, open the Phone app, tap the three dots, then Settings, then Block numbers, and tap the red minus sign.
Blocking only goes so far
Scam callers change numbers often, so a new one may get through tomorrow. Turning on spam filtering in your Phone app catches many of those before they ring. Reporting each one as spam also helps warn other people.
