First, find out which app you use
Most Android phones, including Google Pixel phones and many newer Samsung phones, use Google Messages. Its icon is a blue speech bubble. Some Samsung phones use Samsung Messages instead, which has a different look and menu.
If you are not sure, open your texts and look at the top of the screen. Google Messages shows a search bar and your profile picture. Samsung Messages usually shows the word Messages in large letters.
Forward a text in Google Messages
- Open Messages and open the conversation.
- Touch and hold the message you want to pass on until it is highlighted.
- Tap More, the three dots in the top right corner.
- Tap Forward.
- Choose a contact, or tap New message and type a phone number.
- Tap the send arrow.
Forward a text in Samsung Messages
- Open Samsung Messages and open the conversation.
- Touch and hold the message you want to pass on.
- Tap Forward. On some models you tap the menu or More first, and then Forward.
- Pick a contact or type a phone number, and tap Next if you see it.
- Tap the send button.
Report a scam text to your carrier
Forward the scam text to 7726, which spells SPAM. It is free. Your carrier may reply and ask for the number the scam came from. To find it, open the original conversation and tap the name or number at the top.
Google Messages also lets you report straight from the app: open the conversation, tap More, then Details, then Block and report spam.
Good to know
- Forwarding does not tell the original sender anything.
- You never need to tap the link in a message to forward it.
- Photos forward the same way: touch and hold the photo, then use the same menu.
